Немцы очень любят тесты. Здесь есть Stiftung Warentest, и если он какому продукту присвоит хорошую оценку, эту оценку гордо изображают на упаковке, настолько это действует на покупателей.
По утверждению моего коллеги-немца, эти тесты проводятся очень тщательно, объективно, профессионально и всесторонне.
Сегодня наткнулся подряд на два результата. Первый: amazon.de получил оценку 2,7 — удовлетворительно. Для ориентации: 1) в Германии чем меньше оценка, тем лучше; 2) оценку хуже 2,7 я, кажется, до сих пор не встречал у серьёзных продуктов. В частности, Штифтунгу не понравился интерфейс и детали пользовательского соглашения. Второй: оценку 3,0 получили Nokia E75 и Apple iPhone.
Теперь пытаюсь понять: говорит ли это о том, что надо брать E75?..

Renaming or moving Dropbox folder
Some of those using Dropbox occasionally stumble over the impossibility to change the Dropbox' folder name. On Windows, it is, by default, "My Dropbox". Some older programs still don't like spaces in the file names, so this becomes a critical problem.

Некоторое время назад появилось у меня новое знакомство. Для общения понадобился msn.com, ну и, соответственно, эккаунт на live.com. Регистрируясь, ввёл свой email и имя. Всё ничего, всё хорошо, только...
Через несколько недель меня стал заваливать необычный для меня спам. Каждое письмо начиналось с «Hi Konstantin» или «Hello Konstantin» (то есть самое нормальное, понятное приветствие), и дальше шла ссылка на сайт с комментарием типа «глянь, узнаешь ли меня на этих фотках». Я ежедневно растеряно просматривал десяток junk-сообщений и, отправляя их в спам, не понимал, как же это можно отфильтровать. Каждое сообщение было адресовано лично мне, текст был абсолютно адекватный. Обратный адрес только был явно нелепый, типа orzjdysd91@hotmail.com (все с Hotmail). Но во-первых, у меня есть приятель с адресом (почти) aggn9866@gmail.com, и чем последний лучше первого? — ничем. Во-вторых, адреса никогда не повторяются. Следовательно, не было никаких шансов от спама этого избавиться.
Примерно через неделю, однако, поток внезапно прекратился. Теперь все эти письма надёжно отправляются в спам. Хотел бы я знать, как Гугл это сделал! Я проверял: даже сайты, на которые ведут ссылки, при всей сомнительности содержания, не отмечаются как подозрительные.
Вывод. 1. Гугл опять оказался на высоте. 2. Регистрируясь в новом месте, не указывайте сначала свой основной email-адрес и реальное имя, под которым вас знают люди. Тогда спам легко будет фильтровать.
Только не указывайте имя совсем вымышленное! Сделайте что-то такое, по чему друзья смогут угадать, что это вы, а недруги ничего не поймут. А то бывают всякие нелепые ситуации с вымышленными именами. Об этом — как-нибудь в другой раз.

I have some pictures in a photocamera, that I forgot to move to a (Win) computer at work. Let's do it at home on my Mac Mini.
I don't have a card reader, so let's just connect the camera with a USB cable... The camera shows it is connected... Well, Mac doesn't show the camera as a connected device.
May be, the port (keyboard built-in USB) is not fully functional? Connect the camera to a built-in USB. Same result. OK, probably, I am just "too much used to Windows" and the camera should not be visible from the Finder. iPhoto will help.
iPhoto sees the camera indeed, and finds all the pictures. Perfect. Now how do I copy them to my computer? Select them... Drag&drop to the desktop? Drags but doesn't drop. Hm...

And please don't tell me people read from left to right and there's the whole window width of empty space to the left from the button! It's Mah-ah-hac! Don't you know? Update: While I was writing this text, my Mac suddenly told me that the system hard drive is full and therefore there is not enough disk space for application memory. It suggested closing some applications and at that hanged completely. I had to cold-restart it. The amount of free hard drive space is 3.86 GB. Not quite sure for which application this was not enough.
OK, OK, let's not recall the discussions of stability and bug-free operation of Mac OS vs. Windows. I am pretty sure it has done this just because I hadn't saved the draft of this post. So I have lost it?
